9 killed, dozens hurt in Gazipur RMG factory boiler blast

At least nine people were killed, and dozens burnt when a boiler exploded at a readymade garment (RMG) factory in Gazipur’s Kashimpur area on Monday evening.

Fire fighters recovered five bodies on the spot and sent 20 injured to hospital, assistant deputy director of Gazipur fire service Akhtaruzzaman told Prothom Alo.

Among the injured, four succumbed to their injuries at Gazipur Sadar Hospital, said physician Pranay Bhushan Das.

The RMG factory was still burning and a rescue operation was going on till filing of this report at 11:00pm.

A total of 10 fire-fighting units are still battling to douse the blaze at the factory.

The fire, triggered by explosion, broke out at the Nayapara factory of Multifabs Ltd around 7:30pm, according to witnesses.

The rooftop of the building was also damaged partially in the blast, said Zahidul Haque, a worker of the factory.
