With the help of some of pop and R&B’s biggest names, music producer DJ Khaled’s latest album “Grateful” debuted atop the weekly US Billboard 200 album chart on Monday.<br />
<br />
“Grateful,” with songs such as “Shining” with Beyonce and Jay Z and “I’m the One” with Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne and Quavo, sold 149,000 album units, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan.<br />
<br />
The Billboard 200 album chart tallies units from album sales, song sales (10 songs equal one album) and streaming activity (1,500 streams equal one album).<br />
<br />
Other new entries in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart this week include alt-rock group Imagine Dragons’ new album “Evolve” at No. 2, late pop star Prince’s reissued “Purple Rain” album at No. 4 and rockers 311 at No. 6 with “Mosaic.”<br />
<br />
Last week’s chart-topper, Lorde’s “Melodrama,” dropped to No 13 this week.<br />

On the Digital Songs chart, which measures online single sales, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi’s summer hit “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber continued its reign at No 1 with another 136,000 copies sold. Lionel Messi has agreed to stay at FC Barcelona until 2021 in a deal that all but commits the star striker to playing out the rest of his top-flight career at the Spanish giants.<br />

The megastar who joined Barcelona as a teenager 17 years ago will remain at the club until he is 34 under the new deal, the Catalan club announced Wednesday, ending months of speculation about the future of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.<br />
<br />
"The deal will be signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for pre-season training," the club said in a statement, as the 30-year-old enjoyed his honeymoon just days after he wed his childhood sweetheart in Argentina.<br />
<br />
Messi has hinted in the past that he would like to return in the future to Argentina to play for his very first club, CA Newell's Old Boys in his hometown of Rosario, where he wed last week. But he has also said that his priority is to win more honours with Barca, the club he has called his home since he was 13.<br />
<br />
No financial details of Messi's new contact were disclosed, but Spain's Marca sports daily reported on Tuesday that the deal included a 300-million-euro ($340-million) termination clause.<br />
<br />
Under his current contract, due to run out in June 2018, Messi earns around 20 million euros a year in salary, according to Spanish media -- and this didn't include millions of euros in revenues earned from ads and performance-linked bonuses.<br />
<br />
Messi joined FC Barcelona in 2000 when he was just 13 years old in the youth training centre.<br />
<br />
"He made his first team debut at just 16 years of age in a friendly against FC Porto, before making his debut the following season against Espanyol at 17," the club said in a statement.<br />
<br />
"Shortly after, he scored his first senior goal with a clever lob against Albacete at the Camp Nou."<br />
<br />
The deal announcement is likely to reassure fans and members of FC Barcelona, which has had a disappointing season by the club's own high standards.<br />
<br />
The club was eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter finals by Juventus, and came second behind arch-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga, though Barca did win the Copa del Rey.<br />
<br />
Leading scorer<br />

Messi's contract extension consolidates the much-feared "MSN" striking trio which also includes Brazil's Neymar and Uruguay's Luis Suarez.<br />
<br />
Both have also renewed their contracts until 2021.<br />

With 507 goals scored in 583 official matches, Messi is the club's all-time leading scorer and is widely considered the world's best player along with Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo, his Real Madrid rival.<br />

"He's the best player I've ever seen on the pitch," said Ernesto Valverde, Barcelona's new coach, of Messi.<br />
<br />
Now 30, Messi could have been tempted by other horizons -- having been courted by clubs like PSG and Manchester City -- particularly as he was found guilty last year of tax fraud in Spain.<br />

But he has lived in Catalonia since his early teens, and currently resides in Barcelona with his now-wife Antonella Roccuzzo, their son Thiago, four, and Mateo, one -- both of whom were born in Spain.<br />

And Messi himself said in May that his aim as a footballer was to "try and win the most titles possible" with FC Barcelona.

While crowds for Tests in countries such as England remain strong, Raja, a member of the influential MCC world cricket committee, fears interest in Asia is "dwindling" thanks partly to the rise of lucrative domestic Twenty20 competitions such as the Indian Premier League.<br />

"I feel that the ICC has a decent plan in the shape of the World Test Championship," said Raja after a committee meeting at Lord's on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"There should be a window for that and everything else should stop for a period of two months so the best players are available to play Test cricket."<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
He added: "It's got to get better. In Asia, for example, because of poor Test match scheduling, the interest is dwindling.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"When you go back home you are never sure if you are going to have a one-Test series, a two-Test series or whether you are going to have a Test series at all."<br />

<br />
- 'Respect' -<br />

<br />
Raja said national governing bodies such as the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board had to play their part as well.<br />

"You have to acknowledge and respect the status of Test match cricket and it has to come from the cricket boards, in Asia specifically.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"For example, MS Dhoni retired from Test cricket yet got the A-grade contract from the BCCI, Shahid Afridi retired from Test cricket yet got the A-grade contract from PCB.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"It is under a lot of stress in Asia but if we have a properly planned Test match championship, that's the way out of this, otherwise we will be struggling to put aside as much money as is available for the T20 leagues," Raja insisted.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Meanwhile the committee, whose members also include such illustrious names as Ricky Ponting, Brendon McCullum, Sourav Ganguly and Kumar Sangakkara, has come down against reducing Tests from five days to four days after it was suggested a shorter game might be more fan-friendly.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"Last time we met, the committee was split, with some believing we should trial four-day Test matches," said outgoing chairman Mike Brearley, the former England captain.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"This time, most of us thought, looking at the fact that over half the matches that got results last year got results in the fifth day, that we didn't want Test cricket to become more boring. So from a cricket point of view, we believe they should stay five days."<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The committee also urged the ICC to move quickly to try to get cricket included for the 2024 Olympics, which will be staged in either Los Angeles or Paris.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"It is crucial to have cricket in the Olympics because the game will be introduced to many new parts of the world," said Raja.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"But for that to happen we have to present a unified front from cricket that we want to be included in the Games.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"Los Angeles would be perfect -- I played cricket there and you'd get massive crowds."<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Brearley added it also be a huge boost to cricket in China as the Chinese government would inject huge funds if they had an Olympic team.

Emirates and Turkish Airlines announced on Wednesday that they had won exemption from a US ban on passengers taking laptops and tablet computers on flights from their Dubai and Istanbul hubs.<br />
<br />
They are the latest carriers after Abu Dhabi's Etihad to win a reprieve after Washington imposed new rules in March on direct flights from 10 airports in Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa.<br />
<br />
"The ban on electronic devices has been lifted with immediate effect for flights to destinations in the United States," an Emirates spokesman told AFP.<br />
<br />
He said the airline had won the exemption after implementing new security measures demanded by Washington when intelligence officials learnt of efforts by the Islamic State group to produce a bomb that could be hidden inside electronic devices.<br />
<br />
They required the installation of sophisticated imaging technology for X-ray and ultrasound screening of carry-on devices.<br />
<br />
All other electronic devices larger than a mobile phone had to be transported only in checked luggage.<br />
<br />
The laptop ban triggered a fall in demand for Emirates' US-bound flights and in May the airline reduced services on five of the 12 US airports it serves.<br />
<br />
Istanbul's Ataturk International Airport, the only airport in Turkey with direct flights to the United States, introduced the same new screening procedures to earn the country's flag carrier an exemption.<br />
<br />
"Dear Passengers, #WelcomeOnBoard to our US-bound flight. Please fasten your seatbelts and enjoy your own electronic devices," Turkish Airlines said on Twitter late on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
Its first flight to benefit from the new exemption was its 6.45 am (0345 GMT) service to New York's John F Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday, the Dogan news agency reported.<br />
<br />
Etihad was the first airline to meet the new US security requirements, with its exemption starting on Sunday.<br />
<br />
It earned praise from the US Department of Homeland Security for its swift action.<br />
<br />
Britain announced a similar ban on personal electronic devices for flights originating from six countries, including Turkey but not the United Arab Emirates.<br />
<br />
Turkish Airlines chief executive Bilal Eksi said on Wednesday that he expected Britain to lift its ban on the airline's flights "shortly".

This was the scenario at Motijheel, Dainik Bangla intersection, and Arambagh areas in the capital from morning till 2:30pm on Wednesday.<br />

The water was around two feet deep on the roads from the Balaka intersection to City Centre, one of the busiest commercial areas of Dhaka city, at noon. Many people were wading through the water while others used rickshaws to cross waterlogged areas, though the footrests of rickshaws were submerged.<br />

Poet, writer and political commentator Farhad Mazhar had gone out that morning to buy some medicine. As he left home and walked down the road, a white microbus drove up and stopped in front of him. Three persons grabbed him, forced him to the vehicle and blindfolded him. They drove him directly to Khulna.<br />
<br />
At around seven in the evening the abductors dropped him off at the Shibbari intersection and gave him a bus ticket. This was the statement given by Farhad Mazhar in the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court on Tuesday, confirmed court sources.<br />
Farhad Mazhar told the court that he may have been abducted in order to put the government into a false position. The abductors had simply dropped him off without taking anything from him. He did not know the three persons who abducted him.<br />
<br />
Investigating officer of the case, Adabar police station’s inspector (investigations) Aminul Islam, told Prothom Alo that Farhad Mazhar had stated three persons had abducted him. They haven’t been identified as yet. The police were searching for them. They had abducted him and taken him to Khulna. Later he got on a bus to come to Dhaka.<br />
<br />
The police brought Farhad Mazhar before the court at three in the afternoon. His wife Farida Akhtar filed an abduction case with the Adabar police station in the city.<br />
<br />
The police placed a petition for his deposition to be recorded as a victim. He gave his deposition to the Dhaka chief metropolitan magistrate Ahsan Habib over a span of two and a half hours, under section 164.<br />
<br />
He was later released with an undertaking of Tk 10,000 and the court gave him permission to go home on his own accord. He is presently under treatment at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital. At the court, plaintiff of the case Farida Akhter told Prothom Alo, “I have by husband back. I’m happy with that.”<br />
<br />
Farhad Mazhar was rescued around 11:30 Monday night from Abhaynagar in Jessore on a Dhaka-bound Hanif Paribahan bus that had left from Khulna. His relatives said that some persons had left him early morning on Monday in front of the Huq Garden house in Adabar of Shyamoli of the capital city.<br />
<br />
According to police and court sources, Farhad Mazhar had said in court that he had eye problems and needed to use eye drops. He had gone to buy this medication on that fateful morning. There was a hospital near his house, next to which there was a pharmacy. He had been walking to the pharmacy when the microbus came up and he was dragged inside. He was blindfolded and made to sit in the middle. Two abductors sat, one on each side of him.<br />
<br />
He was told to sit with his head down. While the vehicle was moving along, he called his wife with his cell phone. He told his wife that he had been abducted and they were going to kill him. The abductors snatched the phone away from him.<br />
<br />
Farhad Mazhar told the court that after he was picked up, the vehicle proceeded without any stop. He said he had told the abductors to take money and release him. They asked him where he would get the money from. He said his wife would arrange it. They then asked him for Tk 3.5 million (Tk 35 lakh). He called up his wife for the money.<br />
<br />
Farida Akhter told Prothom Alo, Farhad Mazhar has spoken to her five or six times after he had been abducted. His voice initially had been filled with fear. Farhad Mazhar told the court that he was dropped off around seven in the evening Monday and given a Hanif Paribahan bus ticket.<br />
<br />
The abductors threatened him, saying that they would be nearby and that he should not delay. They ordered him not to tell anyone and to go straight to Dhaka.<br />
<br />
Farhad Mazhar then got onto a rickshaw. He asked the rickshaw puller where he was and learnt that he was at Khulna’s Shibbari intersection. He ate at a restaurant there and then got on the Hanif Paribahan bus. Farhad Mazhar said he hadn’t been abducted for money. They hadn’t asked him for money he had made the offer. Exhausted, he fell asleep in the bus. When he woke up, he found many people around him. Someone asked him if he was Farhad Mazhar. He said he was Farhad Mazhar. He was taken down from the bus and taken to the local police station by RAB and the police.<br />
<br />
Farhad Mazhar in his deposition said he did not know the abductors. He said he did not have enmity with anyone, but there were several reasons why he may have been abducted. He apprehended that those who disliked the present government could have abducted him in order to put the government into a false position. After all, they didn’t want money from him. They didn’t take anything from him at all.

India came into the match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium leading 2-0 in the series and set a modest target of 190 to maintain their unbeaten run in this short campaign.<br />

But the visitors were undone by a combination of disciplined West Indies bowling and their own inexplicable lethargy at the crease.<br />

That pedestrian progress was typified by Mahendra Singh Dhoni's painstaking innings of 54 off 114 deliveries -- the slowest of his 64 ODI half-centuries -- before he fell off the last ball of the 49th over bowled by Kesrick Williams.<br />

That left India needing 15 runs off the final over with only two wickets in hand.<br />

It was Williams' only success of a miserly 10-over spell but proved critical as Holder sealed the win which keeps the series alive heading into the fifth and final match in Kingston on Thursday.<br />

He dismissed Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami in the space of four balls to finish with five for 27, his best-ever ODI figures as India folded for 178.<br />

"At the halfway stage there were a few heads dropping in the dressing room but it took a big effort and I'm really pleased to play a part in keeping us in the series," said Holder after receiving the man of the match award.<br />

"We targeted getting wickets at the front to challenge their other batters who haven't had much work to do of late. It worked this time."<br />

Ajinkya Rahane's excellent form at the top of the order continued with a top score of 60, but the rest of the Indian batting struggled to establish any sort of momentum as the West Indies showed discipline and purpose with the ball.<br />

'More than defence'<br />
"I think it's more than defence contracts," Efraim Inbar, a former head of Israel's Begin-Sadat Centre for Strategic Studies think-tank, told AFP.<br />

"It is a common strategic agenda which includes a fear of Islamic radicalism, fears about Chinese assertiveness and in addition, of course, you cannot ignore the huge economic potential for both countries."<br />
<br />
Inbar added: "But for us it's a huge market."<br />
Israel's 50-year occupation of the West Bank and failure to reach a peace deal with the Palestinians have been major stumbling blocks in its efforts to boost relations with certain foreign countries.<br />
<br />

Guitarist Keith Richards and singer Mick Jagger, both 73, have been in recording studios in London and New York, and label Universal has renewed their contract for a new album which will mint two million pounds for them, reports dailymail.co.uk.<br />

Along with Ronnie Wood, 70, and Charlie Watts, 76, they will release a live compilation album around Christmas.<br />
The next year the band will bring out a new studio record to coincide with the end of their forthcoming European tour.<br />

“Both Mick and Keith would rather be carried off stage in a coffin than give up their great love - writing and making music. They were experimenting in the studio earlier this year, and everything just gelled.<br />
<br />
“They ended up with around 15 tracks which they have cut down to album-length, and when the label executives heard it they were thrilled,” said a source.<br />
<br />
“Age is no barrier to brilliant music, and there is no doubt the new stuff will sell,” the source added.<br />
Richards was spotted in the studio in Manhattan on Thursday tinkering with the latest sound, while Jagger had been spotted making music a few weeks earlier.<br />
<br />
The band’s last album “Blue & Lonesome” - their first studio record for more than a decade - went straight to number one on its release in December last year. And their latest tour, which begins in Hamburg in September, sold out in minutes.

An American warship on Sunday sailed close to a disputed island in the South China Sea occupied by Beijing, as part of an operation to demonstrate freedom of navigation in the waters, a US official said.<br />

The destroyer USS Stethem passed less than 12 nautical miles (22 kilometers) from tiny Triton Island in the Paracel Islands archipelago, which is also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam, the official told AFP.<br />

The operation, which is likely to provoke Beijing, is the second of its kind carried out by the United States since President Donald Trump took office.<br />

The first was on May 25, when the USS Dewey, a guided-missile destroyer, sailed less than 12 nautical miles from Mischief Reef -- part of the disputed Spratly Islands south of the Paracel Islands.<br />

China claims nearly all of the South China Sea, despite partial counter-claims from Taiwan and several southeast Asian nations including the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam.<br />

The United Nations says countries can establish the reach of their territorial waters up to a limit of 12 nautical miles.<br />

China has rapidly built reefs into artificial islands capable of hosting military planes.<br />
<br />
Freedom of navigation operations are designed to challenge the sovereignty of countries with claims to disputed territory. Washington has challenged annexations of South China Sea islets while advocating for a diplomatic settlement.<br />

China has recently built up its facilities on Triton Island, including a new helicopter landing site, according to the Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, part of the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank.<br />

A total of 1,035 illegal immigrants, including 515 Bangladeshis, were detained in Malaysia in the first day of a nationwide operation to crack down on illegal foreign workers following the passing of the E-Card registration deadline, reported Malaysia based daily The Star on Sunday.<br />

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said, enforcement officers inspected 155 premises across Malaysia, screening 3,393 people, it added.<br />
<br />
Of those rounded up, he said the majority were from Bangladesh at 515, followed by Indonesia (135), Myanmar (102), the Philippines (50), Thailand (five) and Vietnam (two).<br />
<br />
The rest were from other countries, he said, adding that those detained included 101 women and three children.<br />
<br />
“The 16 employers were held for hiring and harbouring illegal foreigners,” he said, adding that Johor had the highest number of those caught, followed by Kelantan.
