At first glance it seems to be a muddy lake because the road is simply not visible under the water. The suffering of the passers-by knows no bounds. Rickshaws were being used by commuters as boats!

This was the scenario at Motijheel, Dainik Bangla intersection, and Arambagh areas in the capital from morning till 2:30pm on Wednesday.

The water was around two feet deep on the roads from the Balaka intersection to City Centre, one of the busiest commercial areas of Dhaka city, at noon. Many people were wading through the water while others used rickshaws to cross waterlogged areas, though the footrests of rickshaws were submerged.

Nayan Das, a worker of an international courier service, told Prothom Alo that Motijheel area gets waterlogged even when it rains just a little heavily. "Rainwater in Motijheel is a curse."

Main roads, lanes and by-lanes of Dainik Bangla intersection areas were also seen inundated. M Imdadullah, a dweller of the area, said this area has been getting waterlogged for the last several rainy seasons.
Maruf Ahmed Mansur, commissioner of Ward No. 10 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), said several spots of the area are getting inundated as water outflow is obstructed by development work underway in Shantinagar.
